Dr Protter was originally trained in interpersonal psychodynamic psychotherapy (postdoctoral certification, William Alanson White Institute). He has also received specialized postdoctoral training and has practiced extensively in such problem-focused modalities as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness training, and relapse prevention. Incorporating sensibilities from mindfulness approaches and positive psychology, he has utilized these modalities to treat a wide range of psychological problems including applications to health psychology and behavioral medicine.
Dr Protter creatively tailors his integrative treatment approach to the unique needs and goals of the individual. He brings to bear the depth of understanding and sensitivity of a seasoned empathic therapist attuned to issues of personality and relationship; and years of experience of skillfully utilizing practical and clinically tested interventions to help individuals make positive changes in their lives.
